Old Monk Cocktail for Summer

Old Monk Lovers, if you are looking for a perfect recipe and method for crafting an old monk cocktail and enjoying it in the summer! As a bartender, I am excited to share a recipe for an Old Monk rum cocktail that incorporates curry leaves.

Ingredients

  • 5-6 curry leaves (girinimba)
  • 3–4 chopped ginger pieces
  • 40–60 ml of your favorite rum (Old Monk recommended)
  • 15 ml of lime juice or lemon juice
  • 15 ml of caramel syrup (or sugar if caramel syrup is not available)
  • Ice
  • Sprite, soda, or 7-Up for balancing

Instructions

  • Prepare the glass:

Select a fantastic glass. I recommend using an old-fashioned glass.

  • Add curry leaves:

Place 5–6 curry leaves in the glass. Save a few leaves for garnishing later.

  • Add Ginger:

Add 3–4 chopped ginger pieces to the glass.

Crush the ginger and curry leaves together to release their flavors.

  • Add Rum:

Pour 40–60 ml of your favorite rum into the glass. Since it’s Old Monk rum, this step is essential.

  • Balance with Lime Juice:

Add 15 ml of lime juice or lemon juice to balance the flavors.

  • Add caramel syrup.

Caramel syrup is crucial. If you don’t have caramel syrup, you can use sugar instead.

Although Old Monk rum contains caramel, adding 15 ml of caramel syrup enhances the drink further.

  • Mix and smell:

Stir the mixture well. You will start to smell the wonderful aroma.

  • Add Ice and Balance:

Add ice to the glass.

For those who prefer less sweetness, balance the drink with Sprite, soda, or 7-Up.

  • Garnish:

Garnish with curry leaves or a jasmine flower (chambeili) for a decorative touch.

  • Enjoy:

Sip the cocktail through a straw and enjoy the flavors.
